ASSEMBLY 3 - AREA 11, YEAR 4, MRS LOWE

Mrs Lowe's Year 4's today put on a great performance playing a very competent recorder piece and singing "Wombat on a Surfboard". I managed to film them and have included the clips below for those who weren't there. Our Music Teacher, Mrs Robinson is leading them and needs to be thanked for the great work she did to get them to this very good standard, together with Mrs Lowe.

The quality is a little compromised by the low angle (sitting down with the Pre-Primary's) and the lighting from the louvre windows behind. Click on them below...

Congratulations to our Champions....
Claudia, a Sailing Champion and Laura T in the State Gymnastics Squad. Claudia has a cup won in the 2008 Port Bouvarde Pelican Regatta and trophy for the State Pelican Champions 2008.

HARMONY DAY SUCCESS...

The events today have been were a big success thanks to the efforts of all involved, especially the efforts of our parents. Thank you for helping your children to come dressed in clothes of their cultural background and providing a plate of food for the children to share at a cultural luncheon in each class. Some classes joined together to share their lunch which was great to see too...














Our five Bali visitors ran four workshops with children in various year groups rotating through - They were traditional cultural activities- Dance, Singing, Traditional Clothing and making a traditional offering for the gods....

Aman in Area 8 did a great job as the monkey driving off the evil spirit (Wayan) in the play.

INTERNATIONAL NETBALL GAME







Yesterday the senior netball team played against a visiting team from Singapore and they won convincingly 21 goals to 7. Congratulations to all the team on a great game. Apparently last year the result was the other way round, so again well done team....

INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATION....

Mrs Lowe's, Area 11, Year 4 students are involved in several projects with schools in other parts of the world.
Earlier in the year, they each sent letters to schools involved in a project called "From Me to You". They also received a wall full of letters and cards from other schools from around the world who were part of the project.

They are now involved with a school in the USA to read and comment on students' writing on their blogs and wikis and their students are doing the same for Mrs Lowe's Class. Terry Smith is the teacher at Eugene Elementary School in Hannibal, Missouri and the new project they are collaborating on project is called "ES1001 Tales". The task is to write to the "Alien King" to convince him that our country (Australia) is valuable and worth protecting and should not be destroyed. Mr Smith sent a video of the students introducing themselves to our students and Mrs Lowe is sending one back to them. Each student now has an international blogging pal to read their blog and wiki project entries and provide them with positive feedback.

A SMOOTH EXPERIENCE IN AREA ONE...











The Year One students in Area One were having a fun writing lesson when I happened to call in, earlier this week.
Mrs Kennerson had brought some shaving cream and the boys (The Year Ones in Area One are all boys) were having great fun smoothing out the cream in a thin even coating on their desk and then writing the letters and words Mrs Kennerson asked them too....wish I was able to do that when I went to school... It is great to see our teachers using innovative ideas to engage our students in a more motivating and memorable learning experiences...

NEW CHAIRS AND DESKS ARRIVE....

Today the truck arrived with our new Sebel desks and chairs. These will replace the older furniture in the middle and junior blocks and students were excited to see them being unloaded. Two workmen stayed and assembled the desks, however we were a couple of desks short and are waiting to hear when these might be arriving, as we have already been waiting several weeks. We are hoping to begin distributing to classes tomorrow.
